Larger scale Models (The Tooline Masters) were created to provide better detail than their 1:1 counterparts. These would be scaled down again when cutting the steel tooling by using a Pantograph machine. In the beginning, modified AMT 1/25 model kits were used. In the first couple of years various sizes of Models were used, some as large as a 5up Nomad. In 1970, instead of everyone making their own, the model making was farmed out to IDA (Industrial Design Associates) and were consistently made as 4up.

In 1970, IDA (Industrial Design Assosciates) gets the contract to make all models for Mattel They bring consistency and all models are now made as the 4up size.
